Trivalent chrome plating represents the modern and eco-sustainable evolution of traditional chrome plating, and is now the standard required by European regulations (REACH).<\/p>\n
The trivalent chromium plating process is an electrochemical process by which, by applying a potential difference, an object is covered with a thin layer of metallic chromium starting from a solution based on chromium salts with an oxidation state of +3.<\/p>\n
The chromium deposited on the object is present in the plating bath in the form of trivalent ions, an environmentally friendly chemical form and much less toxic than traditional hexavalent chromium. It is deposited uniformly on the surface, usually after a nickel plating layer, giving it the typical shiny metallic appearance. <\/p>\n
Before the chromium is deposited, the substrate must be prepared through a specific process of chemical cleaning, electrochemical cleaning and nickel plating, the latter being a fundamental step to guarantee the shine and final protection of the piece.<\/p>\n
